BCCI plays down Harare controversy, says no cricketer involved

Sources have told India Today that one of the two accused in question is associated to a sponsor for the ongoing series and that he was not even staying on the same floor as the Indian Cricket Team.

The plush Meikles Hotel in Harare, where Indian team is staying during the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe, was the scene of a storm after Zimbabwe media reported that a member of the Indian cricket contingent had been arrested on rape charges. However, no Indian cricketer was ever arrested or even charged.

BCCI President Anurag Thakur too clarified after multiple reports also emerged in Indian media. "There is no truth in these allegations, there is no Indian cricketer or any match official involved in this. They have nothing to do with the incident and if any individual is involved who is not part of the BCCI or the team then we cannot comment on that. I just want to make it clear that BCCI employees or match officials or even the players have nothing to do with the incident", said Thakur.
